Put a Little Boogie In It

CB Nuit September 18-20, 2026
Festival Theme: Flow

Put A Little Boogie In It was a site-specific participatory installation. It was presented during the 10th iteration of CB Nuit, held in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. The installation combined printmaking, performance, and public participation by inviting festival-goers to dance across oversized plexiglass intaglio plates. As participants moved throughout the evening, their footsteps gradually scratched and transformed the plates’ surfaces. Their movements collectively produced a one-of-a-kind printing plate.

My recent practice investigates the subtle ways people alter and shape the physical environment over time. Put A Little Boogie In It brought those ideas into a public setting. Here, movement became the tool for mark making. By the end of the evening, the plates became a physical record of the crowd itself.

The project explored movement as both a creative act and a process of accumulation. Throughout the evening, the plate remained in constant transition. It responded directly to the rhythm, energy, and movement of the crowd. Individual gestures that might otherwise go unnoticed gradually accumulated into a shared visual record. This demonstrates how collective action can shape something larger than the sum of its parts.

Following the festival, the completed plates were inked and printed using intaglio techniques. The resulting monoprints preserved the marks created throughout the evening. It serves as a lasting record of the CB Nuit, the community that created it, and their shared joy.
