Workshops

In addition to my studio practice, I am an experienced watercolour workshop facilitator with over ten years of experience in adult education. I offer watercolour workshops for adults, community groups, and organizations and have worked with groups of up to twenty five participants. Workshops cover a wide range of watercolour techniques including introductory and intermediate watercolour techniques, as well as skill-building sessions.

Workshops are available in a variety of formats, including half-day, full-day, and week-long watercolour courses. Each workshop can be customized to suit different skill levels, demographics, and learning environments. This makes them suitable for beginners, hobbyists, and more experienced artists. Materials can be provided at an additional cost, or participants may bring their own supplies.

I regularly teach watercolour workshops at the Anna Templeton Centre, and upcoming public courses can be found through their website. I am also available for private bookings, group workshops, and off site instruction across Newfoundland, online, and beyond. Please contact me directly for bookings, availability, or to discuss a customized watercolour workshop for your group.

Birch trees

This workshop focuses on painting birch trees using watercolour, with an emphasis on light, texture, and composition. Participants will learn how to build depth through layered washes and create the distinctive markings of birch bark. Suitable for beginners and intermediate painters, this workshop can be adapted to suit different skill levels.

Negative Painting

Negative painting is an essential technique for creating depth and structure in watercolour. In this workshop, participants will learn how to paint around shapes rather than filling them in, building layered compositions that feel intentional and expressive. This session is ideal for painters looking to strengthen their technical skills and approach watercolour with more confidence.

Watercolour Fundamentals

This workshop introduces the core principles of watercolour through structured, skills based exercises. Participants learn how to control water and pigment, build washes, and understand how pigments behave on the page. Topics include: colour theory, mixing, paper handling, brush control, value, as well as foundational techniques such as flat, graded, and variegated washes, as well as masking.

Content is adapted to suit both beginners and those looking to strengthen their technical foundation. Exercises adjusted to meet different experience levels. The focus is on building confidence, control, and a deeper understanding of the medium.
