Luanne Dominix is a visual artist and educator based in Conception Bay North, NL. Her practice explores the intersection of material culture, natural resources, and identity. Through her watercolour paintings she strives to capture the essence of this connection and explore how it shapes our sense of self and place. Her work features symbols and imagery that ask the viewer to explore the inherent beauty and complexity of her province while reflecting on the changing dynamics faced by contemporary Newfoundlanders.
Luanne’s work has been exhibited in juried exhibitions across Canada and the United States including with the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour; the Society of Watercolour Artists; the Federation of Canadian Artists; as well as the Arts and Letters Award Exhibition held at the Rooms. Additionally, her work is a part of The Rooms Provincial Art Bank as well as the City of St. John’s and Eastern Health - MHAC, permanent collections. In 2021 she won Riddle Fence’s Visual Art Contest.
In addition to her art practice, Luanne is a dedicated volunteer. She currently sits on the board of directors of VANL-CARFAC and is a past board member of NLOWE. She has also given her time to Keepers of the Craft; Hold Fast Contemporary Art Festival; and Junior Achievement Newfoundland.
Luanne holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies (Architecture) from Dalhousie University, a Master of Business Administration from Memorial University of Newfoundland as well as a certificate in Post-Secondary Adult Education. Luanne is an adamant supporter of rural entrepreneurship. She believes that ‘a rising tide lifts all boats’. Supporting small business owners, including artists and artisans, will lead to improved economic development for the entire province as well as the rest of Canada.
Please contact Luanne directly for any purchase inquiries, learn more about her artwork, schedule a workshop, or to discuss community involvement opportunities.
